Gear
In Enigma, Gear encompasses all the essential items outside of your character’s powers—these are the tangible tools needed for survival, exploration, and growth. This chapter introduces key systems for managing Party Supplies, Wealth, Arcanotech, Armor, and Artifacts, all designed to enhance gameplay fluidity and narrative immersion.
The Party Supplies system turns boring inventory management into a dynamic, shared die mechanic that reflects the group's preparedness and creativity. Instead of tracking individual items like ropes or torches, players roll the Party Supplies Die to represent resource availability. Smart gameplay can either restore or deplete this vital communal pool.
Wealth management also avoids the hassle of micromanagement. Rather than dealing with individual coins, players utilize a simplified resource point system that reflects the overall prosperity of the party, rewarding story-driven acquisition rather than meticulous bookkeeping.
Arcanotech, a unique combination of magic and lost technology in Enigma, introduces powerful single-use items known as Bangs, Fixes, and Amps—each providing dramatic and situational effects. Crafting is not allowed due to industrial secrecy and regulations; however, certain archetypes can repurpose or adapt items during gameplay.
Armor provides tactical durability through Armor Points (AP), which absorb damage before directly affecting Life Points, while also influencing movement and risk levels. Finally, players can discover Relics—ancient items embedded with Runes and crystalline fragments of Exaltium energy that grant permanent enhancements and rare abilities.
These elements encourage tactical growth, creative problem-solving, and a deeper connection to the mysteries of the world. Overall, the Gear system in Enigma empowers players with versatile tools while prioritizing exploration, narrative momentum, and player-driven adaptability.
